MLS Cup: NYCFC Wait on Saturday’s Showdown

MLS Cup Story Image

NYCFC could be 90 minutes away from Champions League qualification.

Toronto host Seattle Sounders in a first MLS Cup for both teams on Saturday night in a match which could have huge ramifications for Patrick Vieira’s side.

A win for the Canadian outfit will see NYCFC through to the CONCACAF Champions League for the first time in club history.

Head Coach Vieira was coy on the subject of who he is backing for the title when asked at David Villa’s MVP presentation on Tuesday.

Vieira told journalists: “I’m going to be watching and I just hope to see a very good game like the one we had in Toronto.

“The league is very competitive – maybe even more so than I thought before I came here.

“There are some fantastic players and some very good coaches. I love the MLS and I think it is going to be one of the biggest leagues in the world.”

Toronto and Seattle played out a 1-1 draw in the meeting in July and will be looking to their star men, Sebastian Giovinco and Nicolas Lodeiro, to inspire their bids to lift the ultimate prize.

If Toronto get the W, NYCFC will be automatically entered into the CONCACAF Champions League group stage draw in the spring.

We’ll let you know if we make it here on NYCFC.com on Saturday night.
