Toronto v Seattle in MLS Cup Final

Toronto MLS Playoffs East

The MLS Cup final is set…

Toronto FC will take on Seattle Sounders in the final of the MLS Cup final on Saturday December 10 following a crazy game at BMO Field.

Trailing 3-2 to Montreal going into the second leg, Greg Vanney’s side produced a thrilling show of attacking football to overturn the deficit in 120 minutes.

Toronto advanced with a 7-5 aggregate victory, winning 5-2 on the night thanks to goals from Armando Cooper, Jose Altidore, Nick Hagglund, Bruno Cheyrou and Tosaint Ricketts.

Dominic Oduro had put the visitors into a 24th minute lead before Cooper and Altidore’s first half replies.

Ignacio Piatti thought he’d booked Montreal’s place in the final when he scored after 53 minutes to make it 2-2 on the night and 5-4 on aggregate but Hagglund headed home with 20 to go to take the tie into extratime.

Sebastian Giovinco limped off in the first half of the additional 30 and his replacement Cheyrou came up with the winning goal on 98.

Ricketts ended the Montreal resistance once and for all after 100 minutes to set up a historic final against Seattle.

The Sounders set up their first MLS Cup final at the weekend, triumphing 3-1 over Colorado Rapids to win the Eastern Conference.

If Toronto are victorious on their home field, NYCFC will compete in next season’s CONCACAF Champions League.
