NYCFC Announce Roster Options for 2017

Roster Options story

New York City FC today announce roster options ahead of the team’s third Major League Soccer season.

Seven players have had their options exercised for the 2017 campaign.

RJ Allen, Frederic Brillant, Eirik Johansen, Ronald Matarrita, Tommy McNamara, Andre Rawls and Khiry Shelton have all had their contract options exercised.

In addition, NYCFC have agreed terms on new deals for defender Ethan White and midfielder Mikey Lopez, while the Club has also finalized a transfer agreement with Trinidadian side W Connection for Shannon Gomez, exercising his contract option.

Connor Brandt, Jason Hernandez, Diego Martinez and Tony Taylor will not have their contract options exercised, while Frank Lampard’s deal has expired.

Federico Bravo and Steven Mendoza will both return to their parent clubs following their loan spells at NYCFC and, as we announced in the past couple of weeks, Mehdi Ballouchy and Andoni Iraola have both retired.

Sporting Director Claudio Reyna said: “First, I want to express the club’s gratitude to those players who are leaving us for their service and for being part of this historic season which saw us reach the MLS Playoffs for the first time.

“Every single one of these guys contributed towards the team reaching the Postseason for the first time and they will forever be part of this club’s history, even if their journey with NYCFC is ending.

“Our commitment always has to be towards improving our first-team squad and the moves we make in this offseason are with this idea at the heart of our thinking.”

Everyone at the club would like to thank Connor, Diego, Federico, Frank, Jason, Steven and Tony for their service and wish them all the best of luck for the future.
