New York City FC Loan Goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald to Carolina RailHawks

Akira Fitzgerald vs. St Mirren

NEW YORK | Goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald will go on loan to the Carolina RailHawks until June 7, New York City FC announced today.

Fitzgerald previously spent four seasons with the NASL side prior to joining New York City FC on Dec. 11, 2014.

The 27-year-old made a pair of appearances for the Club during their first-ever preseason; he came on as a second-half substitute in the 2-0 win over St Mirren on February 10 and Fitzgerald started and played the first half in the 2-1 loss to the Houston Dynamo in the Carolina Challenge Cup on February 24.

Fitzgerald played collegiately at Wake Forest University and is among the university’s all-time goalkeeper leaders in minutes played, goals against average, save percentage and saves. He had an Atlantic Coast Conference-best 81 saves his senior season.

New York City FC returns to the field against Real Salt Lake on Saturday. Kickoff from Rio Tinto Stadium is 10 p.m. EDT.
