In New York City FC's short time in Major League Soccer, the Club has learned that their fans can be counted on to showcase their support day in and day out -- win, lose or draw.
After 20,461 fans visited at Yankee Stadium on Thursday night, another 21,891 were in attendance for the Club's match three days later on Sunday evening against the Portland Timbers.
"Our fans are amazing," midfielder Sebastian Velasquez said. "It’s obviously tough with the results, but to see them come out more and more even when we lose, stick with us and cheer for us, even when we’re down ... we feel the energy. We go off that. We keep working, we keep fighting and things are going to start going our way. Once they do, it’s going to be a lot of great times and memories for all of us."
New York City FC began their inaugural season in Major League Soccer with a three-match unbeaten stretch. Since then, unfortunately, the Club has gone 0-3-1, most recently losing 1-0 to the Timbers.
The average home attendance so far this season is 28,351, while Major League Soccer's average is 20,747. The Club welcomed 43,507 to Yankee Stadium for the Historic Home Opener on March 15.
"It’s amazing," defender Kwame Watson-Siriboe said. "Having the support system from when New York first announced it was going to have a football team, it’s continuing to show with the attendance. You have such love for sports in New York. As the games continue to go on and when we have success, New York is going to be very proud for years to come with this club."
