Mix Diskerud, United States National Team Face Rivals Mexico

Mix playing for USMNT vs. Azerbaijan

The match is considered just a friendly, yet the rivalry is anything but.

New York City FC midfielder Mix Diskerud and the United States National Team face Mexico tonight in front of a sold-out crowd at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. EDT. The match can be viewed on Fox Sports 1 and UniMas.

"It's always been a huge game playing against Mexico," Mix said.

The neighboring countries will meet for the 64th time with Mexico holding a 32-17-14 series advantage. Despite Mexico's all-time edge, the United States has had the upperhand in the series in recent years. Since 2000, the United States is 12-5-5 against their rivals, including a 10-2-4 record on U.S. soil during that span.

The two nations played to a 2-2 draw in their last meeting on April 2, 2014.
Mix, who will miss New York City FC's match against the Philadelphia Union on Thursday night, has five goals in 27 caps for the United States National Team since making his senior debut on November 17, 2010.
Here's a look at the midfielder's last five apperances for his country:
