New York City FC partners with Goya Foods to help promote sports and healthy eating

New York City FC and Goya partnership

New York | New York City FC, the new Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise, who play their inaugural home game March 15 at Yankee Stadium have announced a three year partnership with Goya Foods, the largest, Hispanic-owned food company in the United States, to help promote the importance of living a healthy lifestyle through sports and proper nutrition.

Goyaā€™s partnership with New York City FC follows its collaboration with the USDA and First Lady Michelle Obamaā€™s LetsMove and MyPlate/MiPlato campaign, a national health initiative designed to help educate Americans on how to eat healthy and stay active.  New York City FC players will also help to encourage and educate fans with personal anecdotes of how they incorporate healthy habits into their every day lives and describe their favorite healthy Latin foods from Goyaā€™s MyPlate cookbooks.

The partnership will also include an interactive community event where New York City FC and Goya will co-host a youth clinic for up to 100 children (ages 5-16) with on-field soccer activities and workshops on the importance of education and nutrition.

Tom Glick, President of New York City FC, said:

ā€œWe are delighted to welcome Goya to the club. For almost 80 years, Goya has been a well-loved brand and has shared a message we wholeheartedly endorse about healthy and nutritious eating. We see lots of ways that New York City FC will be able to work very closely with Goya to promote our shared values to their consumers and our fans.ā€

Joe Perez, Senior Vice President of Goya Foods, said:

ā€œWe look forward to a great partnership with New York City FC and millions of soccer fans! Goya has always felt strongly about the overall benefits of team sports and the importance of staying active and providing families with healthy food.  We believe this partnership is a perfect fit to help teach our children healthy habits and the foundation they need to develop into healthy adults.ā€
