New York City FC recorded a 6-2 victory against New England Revolution II on Sunday night in Queens. The visitors took an 8th-minute lead through Jack Panayotou before Jonathan Jiménez tied the game up in the 11th minute. The forward scored his second of the night to put City ahead in the 16th minute before Máximo Carrizo put City 3-1 up in the 33rd minute. Gevork Diarbian halved the deficit in the 67th minute before Taylor Calheira reestablished City’s advantage five minutes later. Jonathan Shore added a fifth in the 79th minute and Ronald Arévalo notched a sixth from the penalty spot seven minutes later.

The World’s Borough was the setting for New York City FC II’s clash with New England Revolution II on Sunday night.
The Boys in Blue were keen to bounce back from a Hudson River Derby defeat and knew a victory could pull them into the top eight in the Eastern Conference.
Head Coach Matthew Pilkington made four changes to the side that took on Red Bulls last time out with Ronald Arévalo, Rio Hope-Gund, Christian McFarlane, and Jacob Arroyave replacing Jonathan Shore, Alex Hauschild, Chris Tiao, and Piero Elias.
The game began at a quick pace and that saw two goals inside the opening 15 minutes. New England took a surprise lead after 8 minutes through Jack Panayotou before Jonathan Jiménez equalized three minutes later with a well-taken finish.
One quickly became two for City and Jiménez after he nodded in a brilliant cross from Máximo Carrizo.
The teenage playmaker then got in on the act himself to extend City’s lead in the 33rd minute. Carrizo collected the ball on the right before cutting inside and curling a brilliant effort past the goalkeeper.
City’s momentum showed no signs of letting up in the second half as they continued to push for more goals. Pilkington made his first changes of the evening just after the hour mark as Tiao and Shore replaced McFarlane and Carrizo.
New England reduced the host’s advantage minutes later through Gevork Diarbian – the forward cutting in from the left and side-footing it past Alex Rando.
Pilkington once again turned to his bench in the 70th minute. This time Stevo Bednarsky and Hauschild entered in place of Arroyave and Hope-Gund.
The two sides were now exchanging goals and it was New York’s turn to find the net through Taylor Calheira - his outside of the foot shot deflecting past a helpless New England goalkeeper.
City were now firmly in control of the contest and Calheira turned provider in the 79th minute as his cross found Shore in the box and he converted from close range.
A sixth goal was not far away and Pilkington’s side secured it in the 86th minute after Jiménez was felled inside the penalty area. The striker handed the ball to teammate Arévalo and he confidently converted it from the spot.
That would be Jiménez’s final involvement on the night as he departed in place of Adam Basse. The defender’s introduction would be the final act of note on the night, one in which City recorded a wonderful 6-2 victory.
