Thank you for your interest in the New York City FC Academy.
Beginning with a U-13/14 side comprised of players from New York City FC's 11 Youth Affiliates and elsewhere, the players will be schooled by top coaches implementing the style of play used by the New York City FC first team. The players selected for the Academy will be assessed at New York City FC-hosted Talent Centers and while playing for Youth Affiliate Clubs. Academy coaches will be looking for players both with the talent and character to succeed at the highest levels.
For players interested to trial for New York City FC Academy, please contact your nearest Youth Affiliate Club.
The U-13/14 side will compete in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy League beginning in the 2015-16 season. The U.S. Soccer Development Academy was founded in 2007 to serve as the top tier for youth soccer in the United States and provide an elite everyday environment for player development. The organization was created as a partnership between U.S. Soccer and the top-level clubs across the country, emphasizing increased training with more meaningful competitive games.
Further age groups will be added to the New York City FC Academy in the upcoming years.

How can I try out for your Academy?
Players will be selected for the Academy based on assessment while playing for Youth Affiliate Clubs and while at NYCFC-hosted Talent Centers. Players interested in trials for the Academy should contact the nearest Youth Affiliate Club. By joining an affiliate club, players can be assessed immediately by their club coach, and ultimately, can be selected by that club to attend a NYCFC-hosted Talent Center, where they would be more closely assessed by NYCFC coaches and potentially selected for the Academy team. We encourage coaches/directors from clubs outside our affiliate network to visit NYCFC talent center training sessions to see the level of the player pool and to decide if the players they wanted to recommend can fit in any of those age groups.
What is a NYCFC Talent Center?
NYCFC-hosted Talent Centers are designed to train and evaluate talented players that can potentially be a part of the NYCFC Academy Program. The great majority of players come from our Youth Affiliate Clubs, as well as a small number of players from elsewhere. NYCFC Academy coaches run Talent Centers. Affiliate technical staff and NYCFC Technical staff invite select players. Talent Centers serve as a coaching education platform for local youth coaches, as well.
Roster: There will be two groups training in a three-hour block. Each group will consist of 18 field players and two goalkeepers.
Frequency: Two times per month, year round, except in the summer.
Times: Wednesdays, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. (two groups).
Age Groups: During the summer of 2015, players born in 2001/02 are eligible to be selected to participate in our Talent Centers. And starting in the fall of 2015, players born in 2000/01/02 and 2003/04 will be eligible to be selected.
Can I get invited to a NYCFC Talent Center?
Players will be selected to attend these talent centers either by their affiliate club technical staff or if they were identified by the NYCFC Technical staff elsewhere. Coaches that would like to recommend players to NYCFC Academy are recommended to attend talent centers to see the level of players.
What age group does the NYCFC Academy provide and can I try out for a different age academy team?
NYCFC will have one, U-13/14 U.S. Development Academy beginning for the 2015/16 year. The following year (2016/2017), NYCFC will be adding U12 (born 2004/2005), U13 (born 2003), U14 (born 2002), and U15/16 (born 2000/2001) teams to the Academy program. So, if you do fall into these age groups and are interested in becoming a part of a NYCFC Academy in the future, we encourage you to contact your nearest Youth Affiliate Club.
What is a NYCFC Soccer Festival?
Soccer festivals (U8-U11) are training sessions that include ball mastery and technical training, but mostly consist of fun small-sided games. These games are designed to be fun rather than competitive. These festivals are exclusive to our Youth Affiliate Clubs and affiliated leagues.
Roster: 60-72 players (4-8 goalkeepers).
Frequency: Two times per month, usually, but this depends on season.
Times: Wednesdays, 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Age group: During the spring and summer of 2015, we accept players born in 2003/04/05/06. And starting in fall of 2015, we accept players born in 2005/06/07.
Can I get invited to a NYCFC Soccer Festival?
For these festivals, there are no invitations. Clubs’ technical directors and coaches will select players that will participate in these soccer festivals.
I am visiting the area. Can I practice at one of your Talent Centers?
We appreciate your interest. New York City Football Club’s Talent Centers are open only to players who have been identified by our staff or recommended to us by an affiliate club. At the present moment, we are not accepting applications or requests to attend our talent center, unless the above criteria are met or if the technical director from your club has attended one of our talent centers. There are special circumstances that are made for those recommended to the NYCFC Technical Staff.
Does NYCFC have camps?
Presently, New York City FC does not run or provide camps. If that changes in the future you will be provided more information on this website.
I am from abroad. Do you have a residency for me?
At this point, New York City FC does not have a residency, so for players who are living abroad, we will not be able to provide you residence.
How do I register my team in the Affiliate Development League (ADL)?
Only Youth Affiliate Clubs are appropriated spots in the Affiliate Development League, as this league is not open to outside teams. However, if you would like a spot at one of our two Invitational ADL friendlies, please contact us at ADL@NYCFC.com. Teams need to meet certain criteria in order to be part of these Invitational Friendlies.
What are the ages for the ADL?
For 2015/16, there will be three age groups: 9 year olds (born in 2006), 10 year olds (born in 2005) and 11 year olds (born in 2004).
How do I become an affiliate?
Presently, we are not accepting any more affiliates, but if we open up Youth Affiliate Club spots in the future, we will contact you.
Can I try out for NYCFC first team or apply for a coaching position?
NYCFC does not respond to emails regarding player tryouts or coaching positions. Please address all inquiries to email@example.com. If you are interested in other potential positions in the NYCFC organization, please refer to nycfc.com/team/careers.
Does NYCFC have girls’ teams?
New York City FC does not have any girls’ teams for now.
